What is covered with a TravelCard travel insurance policy?

When you buy a travel insurance policy from TravelCard, a standard policy includes the following:

Medical Cover

A standard TravelCard travel insurance policy gives you medical, dental and ancillary expenses cover if you suffer an injury or fall sick when you are travelling. This can include medical treatment, admission to hospital, travel by ambulance, and repatriation to Australia from overseas if required.

Luggage Cover

Your luggage and personal effects are covered when you take out a TravelCard travel insurance policy. This will cover you if you luggage and personal effects are delayed, stolen, permanently lost or accidentally damaged while you are travelling (sub-limits apply).

Trip Cancellation Cover

This part of the policy covers you if you have to cancel your trip due to unforeseeable events outside of your control, such as sudden illness (sub-limits apply).

Business equipment cover

Business travellers will benefit from this optional insurance cover, which protects you against business equipment being accidentally damaged, lost or stolen, as well as cover for the cost of replacing business documents, samples, demonstration goods, tools of trade, or storage media for electronic data (including legal and labour expenses incurred in replacing business documents). 

Winter sports cover

If you take part in winter sports, this optional cover can be added to your TravelCard travel insurance policy. It includes cover for medical evacuation, lost, stolen or damaged equipment, and avalanche closure. It covers you for a range of winter sports, including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cat skiing and off-piste skiing (with a professional guide).

Search and rescue cover

This optional cover is designed to protect you against costs incurred if a rescue provider or police force is required to search for you and/or to bring you to a place of safety in the following circumstances: it is known or believed that you have sustained an injury or suffered a sickness; the weather or safety conditions are such that it becomes necessary to do so in order to prevent you from sustaining an injury or suffering a sickness.

Adventure activities cover

A variety of activities are provided for in this optional cover, including: paragliding, mountain biking, downhill racing, rock climbing outdoors (not mountaineering), sky diving, parascending over land or snow, deep sea fishing, animal conservation and handling, cascading, and segway tours.

Golf cover

For golfers, this optional insurance covers your for lost, stolen or damage to your equipment, including the unused percentage of green fees and/or tuition fees due to an injury or sickness during your trip.

Cruise cover

This is optional cover designed to protect you when undertaking an international or domestic ocean cruise. Elements covered include medical treatment and evacuation, cabin confinement, pre-paid shore excursion cancellation, lost, damaged or delayed arrival of formal attire, marine rescue diversion, and missed port.

While other claims can be submitted while still travelling, a claim lodgement needs to be made, and when processed reimbursed funds will be transferred to your bank account. Once documentation has been received, claims are processed within 24 hours.
